Thank you for this encouragement to read Women Who Run with the Wolves. I have never read it. I heard the story of Vasilisa and Baba Yaga early in my marriage. It took awhile to get my mother’s doll however…also appreciate the encouragement to read, read, read when the words go silent.
Same here, Katie. I’m still learning to trust my intuition. I think it’s a voice we have lost in these modern times. I often think of it as the Holy Spirit. That helps me listen better.
Reading, reading, reading. I started ‘free reading’ again this summer. I read WWII materials during the last 4 years researching something I knew little about.
What I really miss, I noticed yesterday, I miss reading to my class several times a day. I miss curating the read aloud and read to self selections to support the curriculum.
Laura, thank you for reminding me of Baba Yaga. I’m ready to go to the library and just read, read, read in the section with the little tables and little chairs. My comfort zone and think about the metaphor of laundry. Ironic now that I’m figuring out how to wash my demented aunt’s dirty clothes.
I remember when my boys were small, how laundry was such a hated chore. Now, when they come home to visit, washing their clothes is something I cherish so much. What an act of love to your aunt you do when you do her laundry. And I hope you do go to the library and find that lost love of yours!
Laura, this is so deeply gorgeous and whimsical -->'I noticed a tiny eggplant pushing out of the womb of its blossom-mother'
Sheer delight. You. Your words. Your attentive appreciation of His vast creation.
Thank you for this sweet encouragement, Linda. You are the kindest friend.

I hear you on intuition. Learning to trust it has been a practice for me.

Thank you for your kind words.
I am plotting the first hijack of my aunt’s laundry. Suggestions appreciated!
In my experience, no one has ever argued when someone else offers to do the wash! Maybe it will be true in this case too?
Sadly this aunt has dementia, doesn’t want to lose any independence and doesn’t see she’s dirty.
That’s a tricky one. I’m sorry 😔. This might require an elaborate ruse. I’m thinking on it.
Laura, you have interwoven so many elements in this essay -- it's a beautiful tapestry! Thank you. I need to read it again to take it all in.
Thank you, Jeanne, for these kind words :). You give me such a gift today.
Very interesting! I felt the same way as I discovered my first green pepper, and today the second one!! Beautiful words you have written, Laura!
