I love seeing all your little hummers! We only have one here in WV, and I wait and celebrate every spring when they return. Once you start looking for birds, there’s no going back!
Ohhh I understand the temptation to check the nests. During the day they are usually not around and that is the best time to open nest boxes. If you look, make sure to only do it every couple days and never take the same path to the nest.
Thank you, Aria! These are good tips. I have been noticing when both mom and dad leave the box and have been sorely tempted during those moments. So far I have held off. The baby sounds so active. I’m worried I might cause harm. My box is one of those where you have to flip the front of it up so it’s not an easy task to get a peek. Times like these I’ve considered replacing it with one that has an easier access, lol. I do hope I get to watch them fledge though!
Just bought the book :)
letters to a young poet? It’s so good, I think you’ll love it!
I was just thinking about how I Have Become such an accidental yet Avid Birder in the last two decades which has translated itself into poetry.
The Rilke quote is perfect, he was assuredly on to something.

Laura, this is a beautiful ode to springtime delights. I am here for it. Have we ever loved a spring more than this one?
